Garner 2008 Contractor of the Year Awards for Republic West
|
Scottsdale, AZ August 2008 – Two Republic West
kitchen remodeling projects were awarded 2008 Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards by the Arizona Chapter
of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI.) The
awards were in the category, Residential Kitchens, $60,000 to $100,000,
and one of the kitchens was also honored with the Best in Show designation.
The judging of each entry is based upon problem-solving, functionality,
aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty, and
the entry presentation. An independent panel judges the merits of
each entry.
The award-winning kitchens were vastly different. One, a large 340
square feet kitchen features a French Provincial style while the
other, a small 93 square feet, is a blend of urban loft sophistication
with a cottage charm.
French Provincial à la Family-Style
This large, decidedly dated kitchen, with several entrances creating
a maze-like flow in and out of the bordering rooms, was closed off
to the adjoining family room. An open and functional space was created
through some structural changes, which served to change the feel
and flow of the space. The finished kitchen is a room of grandeur,
but yet maintains a warm, open feeling for family gatherings.

Small Kitchen With Big Ideas
Despite a vaulted ceiling and an adjoining living room bathed in
natural light, this kitchen, prior to remodel was a small cave-like,
enclosed room disassociated with the rest of the house. The client,
a single, professional female with a passion for cooking and entertaining,
was seeking a sophisticated, open loft style that incorporated the
warmth and charm of the rest of the living space. Space and functionality
was maximized through the use of state-of-the-art appliances and
fixtures. With the exception of a microwave/hood, all appliances
were discreetly located under the countertop, adding to the perception
of openness and light. The true test of the remodeled kitchen—
a smooth and elegant Thanksgiving Day feast for twenty-six!
