Window Energy Savings in AZ: How many Kilowatts could you be saving?

Monday, June 1st, 2009

How much window energy savings in AZ can you get when you convert from your old, inefficient windows to today’s ultra-efficient windows?

Let’s take a look at a real-life recent client…

In this “before” picture, you can see the old, very inefficient “single pane” windows:

In this “after” picture, we have the new ultra-efficient Heat Shield windows:

So let’s take a look at their power bill numbers….

In the year before the window was installed, they used 21,472 kilowatts of electricity.

In the year after the window was installed, they used 18,418 kilowatts – a reduction of over 14%.

In the case of this family’s power bills, it means an annual savings of around $224 – not bad when you also consider the $1,500 federal tax credit that they were able to take advantage of too!

Beyond cost savings, these windows are also extremely quiet – the previous street noise is almost zero now.  Peace and quiet and cash savings in the bank – not a bad deal!

Green Windows in AZ: Save Green by Going Green!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

How much of your hard-earned money flies right out your windows?  Home builders use the cheapest windows they can get their hands on – with zero regard for efficiency.  You pay for that cheap front-end cost many times over through years of needlessly high power bills.  What’s the smartest way to save green?  By going energy efficient with green windows in AZ.

But, buyer beware – not all “energy efficient windows” are the same.  Here’s a quick overview of your choices:

1)      Single pane.  This is one piece of glass – very inefficient.

2)      Dual pane.  This is two pieces of glass.  It’s a step up from single pane, but not much.

3)      Low E.  These windows use two panes and special films for increased efficiency.  It’s a big step up from single and dual pane, but still not the best.

4)      PROtec™  These are state-of-the-art windows designed by Republic West specifically for the punishing demands of the Phoenix climate.

Phoenix is special.  We go from the occasional dusting of snow in the winter to long and scorching hot summers.  You can’t take a generic window with a one-size-fits-all attitude and expect efficiency.  That’s why our exclusive PROtec™ windows come in four different “strengths”  – letting us custom tune the different exposures of your home.  For example, the needs of the northern and southern sides of your home are going to be very different.  Our goal is to find the perfect mix of the four different PROtec™ windows for optimal performance.

Beyond offering the most efficient green windows in the AZ market, Republic West also has a customer service experience to match.  We have received the Better Business Bureau’s Business Ethics award for three of the last six years.  Our goal is to make sure that you love your experience with us as much as your new windows.

With energy prices forecasted to go nowhere but up in the future, there is no better time than now to invest in the efficiency of your home.  Plus, PROtec™ windows are so ultra-efficient that they are one of the few windows that qualify for up to $1500 in federal tax credits.  These windows are so efficient that the government actually wants to help you buy them!  Call today for the lowest prices we’ve ever offered in our 14 years of serving the valley – 480-481-9595.

Energy Efficient Windows Avon AZ: A window is a window, glass is glass – right?

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

How Much of Your Money is “Going Out the Window”?

Save Money with Republic West Windows PROtecTM Glass Systems and Energy Efficient Windows Avon AZ

Our homes and offices use an amazing 52% of our energy resources – compared to a mere 9% for our cars.  Buildings create almost 6 times the greenhouse gases as our vehicles.

In just the US, buildings represent:

  • 72% of electricity consumption
  • 38% of all carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions

Imagine the impact on our environment, economy, health, and productivity if we could just make our homes more efficient?

What’s the biggest missed opportunity?  Windows.  Up to 40% of your heating and cooling bills are literally money flying out the window.  Aside from damaging your paycheck – this wasted energy creates over 250 million tons of pollution a year.

Windows take a lot of stress.  Direct sun, reflected heat, shade and exposures dramatically affect their performance.  Every room has its own needs – the old ‘one size fits all’ window philosophy is so… last century.  For peak performance – maximum comfort, light transmission and energy savings – you need a customized design.  Republic West has created the industry leader in superior window design – the PROtecTM Glass system.

But how can you “customize” a window – glass is glass, right?

Actually, there have been enormous advances in glass technology over the old “pane of glass in a frame” of yesterday.  Through the use of specialized glass, high-tech films and inert gasses enclosed inside the frames, Republic West has created the best custom windows available on the market.  We calibrate your windows to your homes’ needs – maximizing your energy savings, sound dampening and light transmission.

So how can you judge one window from another?  There are four key factors:

  • U Value – measures how much heat is transferred through a window.  A lower U- value means less heat flow and better insulating value.

  • R value – measures the resistance to heat flow or how well a material resists heat transfer.  The higher the R value, the better the insulating performance.

  • SHGC – Solar Heat Gain Coefficient which is a critical component in cooling-dominated climates.  This value measures how well a window blocks heat from direct sunlight.  SHGC is expressed as a number between 0 and 1.  The lower a windows SHGC, the less solar heat it transmits.

  • VIS – measures how much visible light transmits through a window.

Plus, there are four main classes of windows:

  • Single Pane -  refers to the oldest system – one piece of glass.

  • Dual Pane – refers to a slight upgrade on the old system – two pieces of glass.

  • Low E2 – the first generation of energy efficiency research.

  • PROtecTM Windows – the current state-of-the-art in window technology.

In independent testing conducted by the Lawrence Berkeley Labs Environmental Energy Technologies Division (in conjunction with the Department of Energy) – Republic West PROtecTM glass systems were compared with other older window designs:

picture-3

The results are dramatic.  By replacing single pane windows with PROtecTM 1045 windows, you reduce the amount of heat transferred through the windows (U Value) by 96%.

Republic West PROtecTM glass systems give you superior energy efficiency – great for the environment and even better for your bank account.

Tax credit!  Windows and doors purchased in 2009 and 2010 that meet the Energy Star criteria will qualify for a tax credit.  The credit is for up to 30% of the material cost up to $1,500.

Buyer beware.  Watch out for people who tell you that “Low E2″ windows will qualify for the tax credit.  Both the U value and the SHGC must be .30 or less – Low E2 don’t qualify.
